I’m Rubin Quarcoopome, and I’m obsessed with stories. From my childhood days in Ghana hearing my father's tales of the mischievous Anansi to my adolescence in Detroit absorbing anime and movies, stories help me understand the world and connect with people. My artistic work is centered on photography and digital painting. I love exploring afrosurrealism, finding ways to make the ordinary weird, and the weird ordinary. My work focuses on telling Black stories and opening doors and ways for others in the BIPOC community to thrive.
As an emerging artist, I continue to grow my technical and creative skill in telling complex stories with images. My work has been featured at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Bumbershoot, and the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. In February 2024, I was the resident artist at Annie's Art and Frame as part of the monthly Ballard Art Walk. I have been published in spaces like Blank Space's Fairy Tales, Arte Noir’s Depth of Field, and Mob Journal. I was also honored as an Artist Trust Grantee for their 2022 Grants for Artists' Progress initiative.
I would love to work with you! Book me for a photoshoot or a design today and let's make something amazing.
